I think young women now still feel much pressure to change their appearance to be more beautiful. In 'The Painted Lady', both of the sisters want to put makeup on though Blanche doesn't wear makeup. I think almost all women want to be more cute or beautiful.I feel younger girls are interested in being beautiful lately. Teenage girls often dress up and wear makeup. I feel they try to look more mature. Also, I was surprised to see some girls put makeup on even they are about 5 years old since I came here. Some mothers put makeup on their children. I feel some mother also feel pressure that their daughters become beautiful lately. Not only wearing makeup, young women are interested in fashion very much. In the cities of Japan, almost all women from young to old dress up. I feel even women compete to look fashionable. That is why I think young women feel pressure to change their appearance to be more beautiful the same as before.
I think it is one of the pleasures of being female to wear make-up or to enjoy fashion, but I hope that it stays just that--a pleasure, not a competition or a source of stress for us. I think we can enjoy trying to look good, but still know that it is who we are inside that really matters to other people.
