Japanese and American Food Culture

I like Japanese food because it's healthy and tasty. Japan has a lot of original foods, for example, natto, rice, miso soup and so on. And almost of Japanese use soy souse when they boil vegetables. I like soy sauce taste very much. By the way, sushi is very famous as Japanese food in the world, and I think almost Japanese like it. I really like sushi. Sushi has many kinds, for example, nigirizushi, makizushi, oshizusi, chirashizusi and so on. Japanese girls eat chirashizush every March 3rd. this day is Japanese girl's day, Hina festival, and eating chirashizushi on this day is Japanese culture. On the other hand, I like American food, for example, hamburger, french fries and chips. I'm living America now, so I eat American food every meal. I was surprised at the difference from Japanese meals at first, but I'm accustomed now and enjoy American meals. I like both these meals.

Have you eaten Japanese food? I like Japanese food as one of the Japanese cultures. My favorite Japanese food is Udon, Donburi, Syabusyabu and suppaiman. They are very delicious. Udon is Japanese noodle, I like to eat Udon with shrimp tempura topping. My favorite Donburi is Oyako Donburi. It is a bowl of rice topped with chicken, egg and onion. Shabushabu is one of pot cooking. We cook with pork. I usually cook them at home becouse I can cook them easily and quickly. They make me happy! I like Sushi too. But almost Japanese don't cook Sushi at home. We go out for diner at Sushi bar. I miss them!

I like American music in American culture. My favorite singer is Linkin Park and Green Day!

They are so cool. Their songs are great for me. My brothers like them too. American contemporary music can be heard all over the world.

Japanese and American culture!!!

I like Japanese culture. There are many things in our culture that I like.

For example,Japanese always take off their shoes when they enter the house.But most American don't take off their shoes when entering the house. I think that taking off shoes makes me relax.

And bath is the great culture in Japan. I like taking a bath to be relax. I can't relax in the bath in America because there is no bathtub and not enough space to wash my body. I think that America should know about how bathtub makes you relax!

And most favorite culture in Japan for me is JAPANESE FOOD!! I feel again that Japanese food is very delicious after I came here. I feel the importance of rice! I almost always eat rice at dinner in Japan but there are common that eat potato and bread at dinner. I think that American should know about goodness of rice too.

Otherwise, I like American culture too. For example, I like that American are very friendly. Many people say me "Hi how are you?" "Hello" with smile. I like this culture very much because it makes me happy every time.

And I found good culture in homestay. When the young child go to bed, the parents follow them to their bed and they hug and kiss before sleeping every night. I think that it is not common in Japan so I was impressed.

Anyway, Japanese culture and American culture have good culture each of them.I like both of them. And I want to discover many American culture while I am staying here!!

My Favorite culture

My favorite Japanese culture is celebrating New Year's Day.
Every Japanese people always celebrate it's day.
As it is coming New Year's Eve, we eat buckwheat noodles called tosikosisoba for the dinner.
And we count down to New Year's Day.
We eat Japanese traditional food called osechi.
Grandmothers or Mothers cook it for a long time, before New Year's day.
It's food is put in a tiered box. There are many gorgeous foods in this box.
For example lobster, bream, chestnut, burdock and beef.
The food is very very delicious, and we eat zoni.
It's dish is rice cake in the sweet miso soup.

Some Japanese people eat a lot of rice cakes on New Year's Day.
And parents and relatives give children money on the day.
So children are very happy, and children play by using traditional toys with their family.

For example Hagoita. It is looks kike tennis.

When we play it, we use rakets and balls which made from wings. It is very fun.

If people lose at this game, the people is draw a picture on the face by another people.
Japanese New Year's Day is unique, so I like the day very much.

My Japanese Culture

My favorite cultures is Japanese food.

For example, Sushi, Nabe, Okonomiyaki, and Takoyaki,

First, I like Sushi. I especially love Salmon very much.

Another ingredients are Salmon roe, Tuna, Egg, Cucumber, Urchin, Squid, and Octopus etc. It has a lot of more ingredients.

Next, Nabe has a lot of tastes. For example, Kimchi, collagen, Kombu(kelp), and Curry etc. It has a lot of more tastes. I always eat Kombu Nabe with my family. It is very nice. I miss it.

When I was in Japan, my mother made Okonomiyaki every Sunday dinner. I like it with mayonnaise very much. And It is difficult when I cook to turn it. But it is okay that I fail. Maybe the taste is good!!

Finally, Takoyaki is like Okonomiyaki, but the differences are shape and without or with Octopus. I don't like Octopus, but I can eat that Octopus into Takoyaki. This is Takoyaki magic! And we need to use "Takoyaki machine" when I cook it. It is easy to cook. So I have never seen to put "Takoyaki machine" in supermarket. Can I cook it here?

Japanese and American culture.

There are many favorite points in Japanese culture. For example, food, event and clothes. My favorite Japanese food is sushi!! Japanese rice is the best in the world, I think. Rice is match with raw fish. Now I want to eat sushi. Japanese traditional cloth is kimono. It have many patterns and colors. It looks very beautiful. My mother has many kimonos. All of them are very cool. We always wear it for the ceremony when we become adult. I can wear it next January. I'm looking forward it.

I don't know detail about American culture. But, I think most American people are friendly and active!! Because when I meet people in a town, they tell me "Hello!"and smile. I feel comfortable. It is nice point in America because Japanese people are not as friendly as American people. I also think they are kind to people. In a store, most clerk say "May I help you?" but Japanese clerk always recommend some clothes if I need them or not. That is why I like American people.

I have some favorite Japanese cultures!!

For example, first I like having a leisurely bath, but we can only take a shower in America. So, I like soaking in a bathtub as part of Japanese culture.

Second, I like paying a visit to a shrine on New Year's Day:D Because I always think that I make a studious effort about anything when I pay a visit to a shrine on New Year's Day every year! So I like it .

Finally, If there is important event for congratulation, for example adult ceremony , almost all of the people wear kimono. Kimono is very good and Japanese traditional clothes. It is good thing to wear kimono when there is a grand ceremony.

By the way, I have some favorite American cultures too!!

For example, first, I think a good thing which is hug when someone meets familiar person, because I think hug is loving action. In Japan people don't do hug when someone meets familiar person, so I think hug is good thing;D

Second, I like to do grand Christmas party in America;-> Because I like Christmas, so I want to do grand Christmas party ,but I think American people's interest is better than Japanese people.

American Christmas's scale is different from Japanese Christmas.

At first there are delicious foods.

Hello! I like Japanese things! I like to eat Japanese food. For example, NATTO, UDON, SASHIMI, SUSHI and so on... I miss Japanese food. I want to eat Japanese food. And I like to wear a YUKATA. It's an unlined cotton kimono. Japanese girls always wear YUKATA in summer! I think it is a very beautiful and colorful costume!

Of course, I like American things too. American people are friendly! They are so kind for me. And I think American clothes are very cute and fashionable! I like to go shopping in American stores! I also like to eat American home cooking. When I went to homestay, I really enjoyed cooking and eating food! It was very delicious.

I like Japanese culture(^^)

I like Japanese culture. Especially, Japanese food is great! My favorite Japanese food is udon,natto,okonomiyaki, and so on. Japanese food's base of taste is soy sauce. The best dish with soy sauce I like is nikujaga. It's Japanese Mam's home cooking. Japanese food are more healthy than American food. Also I'm interested in Japanese events. Especially, New Year's Day is the biggest event in Japan. People eat osechi ,pay a visit to shine,sometimes put on kimono.Children play with a kite-flying and a kuruta game.But recently it 's uncommon. And they are given an envelope for a New Year's gift from grand parents or relatives.It is one of the pleasure things for children. I like the New Year's Day spend with my family.

American culture is interesting for me.The food is almost very big.When I went there, I was very surprised to see them. I think always eating American food is not good for your health, because they have high calories. Also, An annual event is different from Japan. It's interesting.

Each country has own culture. It has good things for each county.

I Love Japan!

Things I like about Japanese culture: I like to go to traditional places in Japan.

I often go to Kyoto to visit temples and shrines, because I like its atmosphere. I can see old, antique buildings. Also I can see "maiko", "geiko". They are very beautiful. Kyoto is representative in Japan. Many visitor come to Kyoto. Kyoto has a long history and Japanese culture. The city of Kyoto keeps old and antique scenery.

Things I like about American culture: I like American food! That's fat food...but very yummy! I like pizza and french fries and hamburgers and American chocolate and and so on.

Also I like American style. People who live in America are many races. My family and cousins are only Japanese. But I often meet people of many races in America. People who live in America can know some culture. It's exciting and wonderful.

Which culture do I like?

I like Japanese things or culture very much!For example,I like Japanese food!Because I love Soy sauce.It's not only salty and delicious but also healthy.I can put it on most foods.If you put soy sauce on your dish, the dish would be better...I think.Now I'm missing Japanese food. But I don't miss other Japanese things.Only Japanese food. So I sometimes buy Asian food for dinner or lunch on holiday. When I eat Asian food, I'm very satisfied.;)

On the other hand I like American culture too. However,American food is not healthy.Like hamburger.I like hamburger.But I can't eat.Because I watched "Super size Me".

By the way,when I went shopping, I felt American people are friendly and polite.

Because If I try to through behind somebody, people often say"excuse me" or "sorry".In Japan,sometimes if somebody hit me, the person don't say sorry.It's not always but often.

So I think American is polite in this case.

Also clerk or person who works at shop speaks to me friendly.

It's fun to talk and I can practice English.

My Observation :-P

I am living in MFWI now, this is the first time for me. So everything is my good experience. I was sometimes surprised at differences between Japanese and American culture.

For example, in Japan, before we have our meal, we usually say "ITADAKIMASU." The sentence is like to say grace. We give thanks for the ingredients of food, farm, and other things but in America, they rarely indicate it so I was surprised when I went on homestay.

In America, they have 'brunch.' The existence is very good for me! Because in my house, I have to have 3 meals-breakfast, lunch and dinner. My holiday's life is irregular so it isn't necessary for me, I don't want to be restricted to 3 meals. Perhaps, some family in Japan have brunch, I think. But we don't call it a 'brunch.'

I was the most impressed about mimesis words. For example, in English, they say "sticky." It is used as a vocabulary. But in Japanese, we say "NEBANEBA." so we use to explain for the condition or appearance.

Why we have a different point of view? Because... It is difference between our cultures! It is very interesting for me. I want to find many kind of difference things between other countries.

I went to SFCC. I met SFCC's students who have Japanese class. At first I was a little nervous but they are friendly so I enjoyed talking with them. I talked a girl. She likes Japan. She knows many Japanese singer. Her favorite singer is Touhoushinki. I like too.　I want to talk again!!

Finally, I showed my partner some picture in my family and I talked about my family!

SFCC

I went to SFCC. I met Japanese class's students and I talked with them. At first I was a little nervous but they are very friendly so I enjoyed talking a lot. I became close to a girl. She is very funny. She likes Japanese singer and Korean singer. I like them too. She know Japan and Korea becouse she learns Japanese and Korean. Her favorite singer is "Tohoshinki". She knows many of their songs.

SFCC students!

I met SFCC students on Friday. I had been looking forward to seeing them. I could ask them some questions. I asked them about Seattle and Host family and so on. Also they taught me correct grammar and I can use a phrase in my daily life. I thought they speak Japanese very well.
First, Mukogawa students listened to SFCC students Japanese, and we wrote illustration which they said of characteristic. It was exciting!! I could listen to their Japanese easily. I wrote Japanese character, Doraemon. I heard about Doraemon is not popular in America. I surprised at it! I enjoyed drawing illustration. Then I talked to the second person. We could talk about many things. When I couldn't get her English, she spoke English slowly and wrote down phrases. So I could understand! She was kind. I was happy. Also I could know good places of Seattle. I wanted to go to places where they recommended me.
I want to talk more with them. So I have to study English hard. I had a great time!! Thank you SFCC students!

Visiting to SFCC

Visiting SFCC was wonderful, exciting and interesting for me. I was a little nervous at first. I talked with a lot of SFCC students. I never had talked with same generation people in English, so it was very interesting. I could not speak English a little, but I was excited. SFCC students were very kind. Everyone was good Japanese speakers, so I could communicate with them. It is difficult for me to explain about Japanese culture in English, so I think that I should study English very hard. I want to talk with many people in English. Visiting to SFCC was a very good experience. I had a great time at SFCC.

Why did you take Japanese class??

In conversation class,I went to SFCC and visited a Japanese class.
Students asked me some questions and wrote my answers. Then students write Japanese well. Thay can write "Hiragana,""Katakana,"and some "Kanji".
I thought it's difficult for people who aren't Japanese, so I was surprised.
After that I asked some questions. For example,"Why did you take this class?" and their answer was "because I'm interested in Japanese cuture." I also asked "What do you like about Japan?"and I can know they like Japanese food. Most students like Sushi,and one student likes Takoyaki. I agreed with that and also recommended Okonomiyak because,Okonomiyaki is famous as well as Takoyaki.It will be good knowledge.I could know many things from this conversation.

I visited SFCC on Friday, it was fantastic!!
My first class partner was Stephen. I draw a picture(face) which he explain in Japanese.
It was interesting, I could draw almost the same picture. He is very kind, because he answered my difficult questions until I could understand.
My second partner was Jake, I asked him, "Why are you studying Japanese?"
He said "I like Japan very much. I like Japanese culture, comic and song. And I want to understand Japanese web site."
I was surprised. For example, he can sing a Japanese song! That's great!
He knows many things about Japan what I don't know well.
I had a great time, so I'm looking forward to see SFCC student next time!

Visiting SFCC

Last Friday, we went to SFCC to meet students who study Japanese. It was the second time for us. First, they gave me some advice and I drew a picture. It was a student's face but I couldn't draw well at all. I apologized to them. They always smiled. I was relieved. Second, I had some questions about host family. I asked two students. One student had done home stay, so she gave me advice. For example, cooking, watching movie and go shopping are good. If I can't make myself understood to them, it is no problem. I relaxed when I heard it. She cheered me up. Another student hadn't done a homestay but she considered with me. She also will do homestay this summer in Japan, so she asked me about Japanese manner and Kyoto. I just visited there before I left for Japan. I hope our homestay become success. I had a good time. I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

Let's Go To The SFCC

I went to the SFCC on March 5. When I entered the classroom,some students remembered me,so I felt happy. That day, SFCC students explained a characterstic of the face,and I listened and drew pitures. Students were laughing,because my picture was poor(>_<) I'm not really good at drawing pictures! After that, I asked many questions about family or homestay.I thought American students have much time to spend with their family in spite of being college students. And I could know about manners at homestay. Everyone is kind and interesting.I got used to them more than before. They study Japanese and we study English, so this visiting is a good opportunity to improve each skills. We had a nice time.I want to visit there again.

I was very pleased.
I sometimes couldn't understand or make myself understood in English, so it was so frustrating.
I thought I want to talk them more smoothly.
So I want to improve my skill by the next exchange.

I Visited SFCC;-)

On Friday, I visited a Japaneseclass at SFCC.

I visited the class at SFCC some days ago, so I have visited there twice.

When I first met them, I was a little nervous, but this time I wasn't nervous.

They asked some questions in Japanese, and I answered questions and drew the picture.

I'm not good at drawing, so my picture was very funny!! We laughed.

And I asked some question about American family.

I could understand about style of American family, so I'm going to refer to it when I stay with my hostfamily.

I really enjoyed spending time with SFCC students :-)

Language Conects to us :-)

I visited Japanese class of S.F.C.C.on March 5th. I talked with 2 friends. I did 2 things. First of all, I listened to a description which they told me in Japanese. After that I draw a picture. It was strange because they were very good Japanese speakers, but some words had a difference between English and Japanese. So misunderstandings happened. I drew a crazy picture! The picture made us laugh! Next, I had some questions. So I asked them. They knew very well about Japan. They said "I'd like to go to Japan!" I was glad to hear the news. But they want to go to urban area, Tokyo, Yokohama, etc. I live in Nishinomiya. So I was a little bit sad. One friend taught me about favorite Japanese food. He likes ????? But he doesn't like natto because the smell is very very bad. I see, but I love Natto! The smell stands out for a good taste! I recommend it to you! I was impressed with them---Japanese class members. Because it is said to be difficult to study Japanese. But they are very good at Japanese. I wonder if they study Japanese very much so I have to study English very much too! I'd like to speak English fluently.

SFCC Is Wonderful!

I went to SFCC on last Friday in conversation class.

I talked to 2 students of SFCC and asked questions about

host family. They taught me a lot of things about host

family. These answers are very useful. After that, we

did an illustration quiz. And he taught me a new word

"pizza boy". On the other hand, my illustration is too

bad to endure laugh. I thought I try to practice

illustration more. By the way, my English is not

understandable, so I try to study pronunciation and want to

improve it. I learned many things in SFCC. I want to go

there again.

Good memory in SFCC！

I visited Japanese class of SFCC on last Friday.

SFCC students could speak Japanese very well.

I couldn't speak English very well. So my partner tried to speak Japanese!

He asked me by Japanese, "Can you become my girlfriend?"

My answer is " NO! " But he has girlfriend!! And she is Japanese!! I was surprised!!

He said, "She will come Spokane this summer vacation." I want them to be happy!!

He can speak more Japanese.

Next, I played "ORIGAMI" with another student. I enjoyed playing it.

She likes "HELLO KITTY" very much. I brang "Hello kitty" Origami.

I could make her happy! I was happy too.

I had a good time in SFCC.

Good experience in SFCC!

I like to go to SFCC because there are many university students who study Japanese.

I can speak both Japanese and English. It is precious time to communicate with American students. First, I drew a picture. But the picture was strange because I followed what my partner said. My partner told me in Japanese how I should draw it. It was very exciting and strange. Second, I asked them about American family. They told me many things kindly.

There are many surprises and discoveries. And we talked about Japan.

I became to eat Japanese food because my partner likes Japanese food so we talked about Japanese food. Anyway, I like to talk in English with SFCC students. I want to go many times and I want to make many friends in America. It is my dream!

Hi! My name is Megumi Sugimoto. I'm 19 years old. I live in Nishinomiya in Hyogo.
But I live in Cather house now! I enjoy my study abroad. But I'm always sleepy.
I love fun so I am always looking for happy. I like sport,trip,listening to music and watching TV.
I belonged to track and field club when I was junior high school student and I was belonged to teniss club when I was high school student. I like to go trip. Especially, I like Okinawa which is very beautiful sea and view. It makes me happy. And I like Disney Land too.
I want to goodexperience in MFWI. So I will try anything with positive!

Hello. My name is Maki Uemura. I'm 18 years old. I have four members in my family. Father,Mother,one older sister and me. I live in Nara with them. Nara is very country but it has many nature. So, I feel confortable. And I belonged handball club as a manager when I was high school student. It was very hard so I didn't have holiday. But it was fun for me because I like watching sports. For example I like watching volleyball and figure skate on TV. My favorite food is fruits. But commons serve an apple or an orange. So I can't eat them, I want to cut.

Hi :-) My name is Mizuho Tanabe! Please call me Mizuho or everything else, OK! We have stayed for about 1 month. How do you feel now? I think it is very fast! Because, everyday is new experiences for me. I want to learn everything more and more, and know about everybody in this class:-P

I introduce about myself . I love sports. I belonged to softball club for 6years. When I was a high school student,I won the best 16 at a national conpetition. It was good memory for us. And I love music! I have played the guitar since 10 years old. I worked at part-time-job in McDonald's before I came here. It was like my house. I'm lovin'it! By the way, I am mypace. I am straight.So somebody may think " Mizuho is funny." But I don't concern! Because it is I ! I want to be myself everytime, everything. Nice to meet to EVERYBODY!
